The Roosevelt Intstitution's Chapter at Binghamton University is still in a phase of development. If you are interested in helping develop and be a founding member of the chapter please contact Takiyah Butler at tbutler2@binghamton.edu. I am very interested in hearing from anyone who deems a need to explore progressive policy and its creation at Binghamton University. Some Issues I find important and hope to work on, but well not be exclusive of other policy centers, and polices are: 1. Local economical development- With the recent decades providing Binghamton with a decrease in technological and industrial development than was seen in the decades previous, the ability of the government both of Binghamton(and surrounding areas), Broome County, and New York to increase economical stability that is at once mutilayered, and two interegrative in so much as depending less on big chain stores/major corperations to provide the majority of a areas tax intake and consumer spending, and letting local business play a more significant part . A strong foundation of local business supporting the consumptive needs of the citizens well bring about stronger, more interactive, and safe communities that can honestly be called "Neighborhoods". 2. A Center for Ethical Politics, and Statesmanship. The need is ever more pressing for representatives in local, state or national governments to put aside allegiences to political parties and to insure they are a competent and accurate voice of the people of their wards, districts, cities, counties, states, and countries. That they know not what it is to tow the line of pure idealism, but of practical need based government, To provide cost effective medical programs that work, to provide a energy that is effiecient, renewable, and environmentally friendly. To delegate less tax incentives and more balanced budgets, to forgoe pork barrel spending just so it can be said they have brought money back to their constiuents and bring back money in programs and infrastructure that the citizens they represent continuously need.
These are but some of the issues/policy centers I hope to organize, as well as intergrate many others that Binghamton Roosevelt members, university faculty, and citizens of the community bring to our attention.
